OSU – Oklahoma City, located in the heart of Oklahoma City, is looking for an Clinical Registered Veterinary Technician.




Job Summary:


Provides technical support to the Veterinary Technology (VT) program, its instructors, students, and administrators. To provide instruction for VT laboratory sessions.  




Salary: $15.00 - $19.23 per hour






AAS in Veterinary Technology ;  Bachelors Preferred

Work Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years experience as a registered veterinary technician with primary duties providing services in a clinical  (public or private) setting 

•Experience caring for a variety of animal species

•Experience with USDA & IACUC protocols
• Hands on, clinical experience with a variety of animal species


Professional License and/or certifications:

Certified (Licensed/Registered) Veterinary Technician, Current Oklahoma licensure required. 

Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license and be willing and able to drive a university owned vehicle to off-campus locations.  Must be willing to transport students or other university approved passengers.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•Knowledge of current instrumentation and equipment used in the veterinary field  

•Knowledge of currently acceptable surgical, restraint, and laboratory techniques 

•Knowledge of AVMA accrediation requirements for an accrediated veterinary technology program

•Skilled in records management  

•Skilled in the handling and restraining of a variety of small and large animal species

•Skilled in technical support for anesthesia and surgery in a varity of animal species

•Ability to promote the success of the VT program and its students

•Ability to exhibit professional deportment and demeanor befitting a role model

•Ability to assume responsibility and a leadership role

•Ability to independently manage projects and duties


Working Conditions:
• Must not be adversely affected by (allergic or sensitive to) formaldehyde, any commonly used veterinary formulations or any commonly encountered domestic species to the extent that such allergy/sensitivity would impair job performance.

• Must be tuberculosis negative and agree to annual tuberculosis testing at own expense. 

• Must, at own expense, be rabies vaccinated (assuming Human Pre-exposure Vaccine is available) and maintain routine titer checks, and obtain booster vaccines as necessary or agree to sign a waiver of liability.

• Must be able to work outdoors in typical environmental conditions (rain, heat, cold, wind) with appropriate personal protective equipment.

• Must be able to work in a noisy environment with appropriate personal protective equipment.

• Must be able to work with and restrain a variety of animals including dogs, cats, cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, birds, reptiles and lab animals.

• Must be comfortable working with large groups of people and/or animals.

• Will require occasional evenings, and weekends.  May require occasional travel with overnight stays.

• May be occasional changes in work schedule due to participation in public relations, outreach, student advisement, and other campus activities.

• Must be flexible to occasional changes in work schedule. 

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to safely manipulate and/or lift animals as necessary to perform tasks related to veterinary care and handling, with appropriate personal protective equipment.

• Position requires frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and may occasionally require lifting weight over 120 pounds with assistance, following proper lifting techniques.

• Must be able to operate manual cattle and horse enclosure and restraint equipment (corral gates, stocks, chutes, head gates, etc.) with appropriate cautions and personal protective equipment.

• Individual must be able to stand/walk approximately 7- 8 hours per day.  Position requires frequent to continuous bending/stooping, squatting/crouching and pushing/pulling.

• Manual dexterity/visual ability to perform common veterinary medical procedures including but not limited to administering injections, placing IV and urinary catheters, positioning patients for various medical and diagnostic procedures, operating microscopes, refractometers and other diagnostic equipment.
