Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Comparative Medicine and Attending Veterinarian, the Clinical Veterinarian will assist in maintaining OMRF's Animal Care and Use Program; provide clinical veterinary care and research support for diverse laboratory animal species; and provide collaborative guidance and support to other entities involved with the institutional animal care and use program.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-The provision of veterinary medical care and research support to a variety of animal species in accordance with current veterinary medical practices, federal regulations, PHS Policy, and AAALAC Int., standards;

-The supervision, direction, and professional development of animal care staff;

-Providing guidance to research personnel on animal model and protocol development, the selection of appropriate anesthetics and analgesics, surgical techniques and procedures, pre- and post-operative care, rodent breeding colony management, and methods of euthanasia;

-Training comparative medicine and research personnel on the humane care and use of laboratory animals, veterinary medical procedures and techniques, the appropriate use of veterinary equipment, occupational health and safety issues, and other topics relevant to working with laboratory animals;

-Effective communication and collaboration that foster and maintain productive working relationships with OMRF leaders, investigators and research personnel, the IACUC, EH&S personnel, and other entities involved with the animal care program;

-Active participation on the IACUC;

-Participation in the veterinary on-call rotation.


Minimum Qualifications:

Veterinary medical degree from an AVMA accredited veterinary college or ECFVG (Educational Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates) certification. Veterinary licensure in at least one of the United States, preferably Oklahoma. A team player able to thrive in a customer centric, continuous improvement environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Residency training in comparative medicine or board eligibility. A penchant for operational management. Interest in learning and implementing LEAN concepts, change management using leadership traits.

Physical Demands:

Will have contact with a wide variety of animals, some of which may be considered to harbor hazardous agents. Will potentially be exposed to hazardous agents, biological, chemical, and radiological. Work schedule is subject to variations and the need to quickly prioritize in response to changing conditions and circumstances. Expected to work/cover weekends and holidays on an on-call basis. Must be able to work with minimal guidance from supervisor.
