Job Function:

Responsible for assisting students and parents, by phone or in person, with the completion of applications needed to apply for federal, state, and institutional aid.  Specialists will serve as the initial contact for students, parents, internal and external agency inquiries regarding financial aid and scholarships

 

Pay Rate: 

$10.37 hourly

Essential Job Functions: 

Serves as the initial contact for inquiries concerning financial aid via phone, email, or personal contact.

Assist students with FAFSA completion inquiries.

Timely responds to the majority of all incoming communications.

Retrieves and distributes all incoming and outgoing mail.

Inventories office forms and supplies to ensure its availability.

Monitors and resends, if possible, all returned mail.

Participates in financial aid workshops and seminars.

Completes all mandatory training and participates in a minimum of two professional development each year.

Retain accurate student records and maintain student confidentiality by observing policies related to student privacy (FERPA).

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

Associate Degree or equivalent related experience with some college courses completed

Work Experience:

Customer service oriented person who has experience working in an office setting in a fast-paced environment. 

Three years’ experience in a record-keeping/customer service environment or equivalent education

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree.

Previous work experience in Higher Education and/or Financial Aid.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High degree of integrity; ability to work in a sensitive, highly confidential and professional environment  
  • Must be adaptable to performing under moderate levels of stress, imposed by frequent deadlines, peak workloads and public/student contact.
  • Ability to handle multiple task and prioritize effectively
  • Demonstrated knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to: office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and also collaborate within a team environment.
  • Exhibit problem solving skills beyond a set of instructions and adapt to changes when necessary.
  • Communication skills to professionally exchange information, give/receive instructions and to accurately respond to inquiries. 
  • Ability to understand and adhere to institutional policies and procedures.
  • Must possess positive public relations skills and be student-centered.
  • Ability to accurately and expediently process and analyze detailed paperwork.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to a multicultural environment in an effort to work and communicate effectively with all students, faculty, staff and community partners.
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately.
  • Working knowledge of college-level student records procedures, documentation, standards and regulations (including FERPA)
  • Passion for assisting students with educational endeavors and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism
  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior

Working Conditions:

Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends in an often timesbusy and noisy environment.

Work will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone and via email

Physical Requirements:

During peak enrollment and processing periods must be able to handle high volume of phone calls and student inquiries.
 
Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computer usage.
 
Must be able to lift 25 pounds
