Job Description

The On-Site Resident Engineer (ORE) will support maintenance of the Ground based Midcourse Defense (GMD) launch control system and components. ORE will be stationed at Fort Greely, AK with some business travel to Huntsville, AL and Vandenberg AFB as required to support test procedures development, work order and open paper reviews and dispositions. Help develop procedures and executes work to ensure successful completion of interceptor arming sequence. Assist in the activities associated with requirements development and allocation. Provides supportability design influence and interrelationships with other engineering disciplines. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations. Performs maintenance engineering support to ensure operational capability of mechanical systems and electrical/electronic launch control systems. Assist in establishing support requirements for product designs of complex systems. Applies extensive job practices, techniques, standards, principles, theories, and concepts associated with requirements definition, decomposition and allocation. Supports the data collection and analysis needs to respond to customer inquiries. Must be able to work with other product support teams and interface with GMD development teams to identify and resolve maintenance issues.

Qualifications

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.

 

TYPICAL EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED):

  • The Ground-based Midcourse Defense system is operationally capable to defend the homeland against long-range ballistic missile attacks. This position supports a 24/7 operation. Over time, on-call rotation, and backs to support work requests will be required after normal working hours, on holidays and weekends. Travel required to support Boeing Team at other locations and be available for off-site training.
  • This position requires the individuals to perform work tasks in an operational missile defense complex or at operational interceptor launch facilities when system assets are subject to war fighter deployment. An operational missile field or and operational interceptor launch facility have significant inherent health and safety risk and individuals are required to train understand and observe extensive safety and process controls to help protect people and equipment.
