OSU-Oklahoma City, is located in the heart of Oklahoma City, is looking for a Horticulture Technician
Performs semi-skilled to skilled level duties under general supervision to support operation and maintenance of the greenhouses, gardens, or grounds. An incumbent in this position will follow generally standardized operating policies and procedures. Position will require working with public, faculty, staff, students and volunteers. Effective interpersonal and communication skills are expected. Proper conduct and appearance are important at all times.
Individual must stand/walk approximately 7-8 hours per day. Position requires frequent to continuous bending/stooping, squatting/crouching, and pushing/pulling. Position requires working in the outdoors with temperature changes and extremes, operating motorized equipment, proper handling of toxic materials and exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and gases, etc. Position may require working on occasional weekends and/or assisting with special events outside of normal working hours.
Position requires frequent carrying/lifting of materials up to 40 pounds. Occasionally may lift weight over 75 pounds following proper lifting techniques. Individual must be able to use both feet for repetitive movements as in operating foot controls on equipment. Individual must also be able to use both hands for repetitive actions requiring simple/firm grasping and/or fine manipulation.
Rate of Pay: $8.50 per hour
High School Diploma
1-2 years grounds, maintenance and greenhouse experience and/or equivalent horticulture training.
Skilled in equipment operation and maintenance
Proficient with garden and hand tools, sprayers, aerators, etc.
Skilled in the application of fertilizers, herbicides, etc.
Must have current certified pesticide applicator's license (Category 3), or ability to become licensed with six months of hire date
Must have valid drivers license
Strong communication skills; ability to understand and follow instructions and avoid safety problems
Ability to read and interpret printed materials for chemicals, basic charts, diagrams and instruction material for equipment use
