BASIC PURPOSE: The Category Management Support (CMS) position is responsible for touching every aspect of the day to day business processes for consumable buying for all 400+ Love’s Travel Stop Locations. The buying process includes, but is not limited to Distributions, Item Maintenance, Support Operations, and Communication (D.I.S.C). The CMS will be proficient in all merchandising software for reporting and item setup. 

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Distribution: 

  • Work with all aspects of our primary distributor (McLane) as it relates to product item management, distributions, communications, planogram maintenances that are facilitated through the category manager.  system provided by Category Managers and Divisional Marketing Managers or via electronic supplier communication interfaces (EDI) or via other approved forms. 
  • Maintain strong vendor relations that require requesting vendor/item catalog files including 360 pricing forms and/or maintaining catalog files.  Determines best practices on collection of data through EDI or Vendor Link.
  • Item cost and retail maintenance for new suppliers and linking items for authorized stores, includes communicating with store Operations Teams to troubleshoot non-scanning, pricing discrepancies or inventory control issues. 
  • Maintain and manager monthly promotional plans as designated from the Category Manager for all types of manufactures that distribute through the key distributors such as McLane.
  • Work with vendor partner to identify miss-shipments and develop store level resolution.
  • Maintain and track store specific distributions to assure timely delivery for all 400+ Locations.
  • Prioritize and plan duties during the week/month to optimize time lines and deadlines that require timely updates of internal item management of cost, pack size changes, plan-a-gram updates, and distribution to stores.
  • Manage all reporting functions and production reports of sales for all assigned categories. 
  • Assist in testing and implementing new procedures or software upgrades and/or implementation.
  • Manage product placement accuracy and Planogram (POGs) integrity in the Love’s POG Database as needed. 
  • Manage and create reports and provide recommendations based on the analysis.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.

    Item Maintenance: 

  • Utilize Vendorlink to review vendor submitted files for accuracy, approve inputs, and make corrections as needed.
  • Manage monthly promotional plans and assist with executing monthly marketing plans. Includes decisions on good use of non-proprietary software used to implement these plans so that they support execution in stores.
  • Work with Vendorlink team to fix store level maintenance issues, replacement items, and manage store level distributions that support category initiatives. 
  • Work with manufactures that supply their items from our consumable distributor such as McLane to manage their item submission, retail changes, etc., from end to end using Vendorlink.

Support operations

  • Answer questions from stores, store support, Vendorlink, etc… for given categories.
  • Create solutions based upon Divisional Merchandising Manager (DMM) requests.
  • Assist in testing and implementing new procedures or software upgrades and/or implementation.
  • Manage the reorder process for some merchandising equipment used at stores.

    Communication

  • Communicate to Pricebook, Vendorlink, Marketing, Store Operations, weekly conference calls to Merchandising teams, Friday Division Director calls, vendor partners, category managers, and senior management on distributions, category initiatives, and program rollouts.
  • Elevate Issues to Category Manager teams that become trends for further support and direction.
  • Create and support communications to the field Divisional Marketing Manager’s that support direction from the Category Manager

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education:
    • HS Diploma or equivalent required
    • Bachelors degree preferred
  • Experience:
    • Experience in Retail preferred
    • Accounts Payable and experience with technical developments or implementation a plus
    • Experience managing vendor relations a plus

  • Skills:
    • Hard skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Soft Skills: Stable work history, good oral and verbal communications skills, team player, keen attention to detail, self motivated, ability to work in a fast paced environment and strong analytical skills
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    • Scheduling flexibility.
    • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
    • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
      • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
      • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
