Job Description

Overview:

  • Lead STE hardware engineer responsible for developing, testing and maintaining electrical special test equipment (STE) in support of X-37B operations.
  • Develops and documents complex electronic and electrical system requirements.
  • Designs hardware, software and interface specifications for equipment used to support laboratory, test, and operational environments.
  • Tests and validates to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements.  
  • Solves problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product life cycle.
  • Researches specific technology advances for potential application to company business needs.
  • Performs analysis, definition and verification of system/sub-system requirements with minimal supervision in accordance with accepted industry, professional, and government standards to ensure design integrity.
  • Researches, designs, develops, prototypes, and integrates training systems and/or support equipment, hardware and software by utilizing engineering tools and processes to fulfill customer needs and requirements.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (Requirements):

  • This position requires an active (or ability to obtain) U.S. Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • Active TS/SSBI with Special Programs Access clearance required.
  • Candidate should be able to troubleshoot hardware using standard test equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, scopes, etc.
  • Knowledge of digital and RF components and circuitry required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, overtime and occasional weekends when necessary to support factory and operations activities.
  • Strong problem solving skills and logical thinker, self-starter, team player, good communicator.
  • Position requires regular travel to CA sites for program activities for the initial year of assignment.  Domestic travel required.

Assets (Preferred):

  • Experience in development, certification, and maintenance of electrical support equipment and test software used for space vehicle or launch vehicle testing.
  • Knowledge of voice and data networks and communication equipment used for those networks.
  • Familiarity with telemetry and command ground station hardware.
  • Previous experience supporting ground operations.
  • Experience with secure computing equipment and networks and meeting security requirements associated with those systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware using standard test equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, scopes, etc.
  • Knowledge of PC's and networking is desirable.

Typical Education / Experience:

Level 4:

Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
