Job Function:

Responsible for processing and tracking new library materials, maintaining the print and online periodical subscriptions, working in the acquisitions part of the library management system, and assisting with public service functions.  Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Salary:  $9.47 Hourly

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Participate in group and individual training in the use of Alma and Pete’s Portal as well as the online databases.
  2. Set up and maintain acquisitions records in Alma.
  3. Work with our online resources in Alma and maintain access through Pete’s Portal.
  4. Receive, track, and maintain print subscriptions.
  5. Maintain records of purchases.
  6. Prepare new library materials for cataloging.
  7. Process new library materials so they are ready for use after cataloging.
  8. Maintain records of items removed from the collection.
  9. Provide basic public service to library users.
  10. Be able to open/close library as needed.
  11. Learn and maintain the back office of Pete’s Portal.
  12. Regularly review the library website for working links and current information.
  13. Completes all mandatory training and participates in a minimum of two professional development each year as well as additional online or live classes.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Work Experience:

One year of experience in accounting or bookkeeping or other office work requiring organizational and quantitative skills.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and other office technologies such as computers, fax machines, scanners, Internet
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Must be able to develop and maintain relationships with vendors
  • Excellent customer service skills and strong organizational skills
  • Accurate typing/data entry skills and demonstrated ability to work with attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and also collaborate within a team environment
  • Exhibit problem solving skills beyond a set of instructions and adapt to changes when necessary
  • Ability to make appropriate recommendations based on logical and justifiable reasoning
  • Ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately
  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior

 

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent.

 

Preferred Qualifications.

  • Previous library work experience
  • Knowledge in the use of library management systems (preferably, Alma) for work in the acquisitions portion and other library-related systems such as the OCLC Label Program
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how digital resources work

  

 

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends in an often times busy and noisy environment.
  • Work will be performed in an office environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone and via email. 
  • Position requires repetitive desk to counter mobility.
  • Typical library environment – various working areas may be dusty.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to transport books and copier paper.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computer usage
