We’re seeking a Marketing & Events Specialist for our Marketing Department to develop and execute marketing plans for The Oklahoman Media Company’s external and internal promotions and events. Utilize sponsorship opportunities and events to promote the brand in an effort to improve our brand measures and generate sales leads.



Event management

  • Develop, recommend and execute plans for marketing department and company-owned events. Each event plan should be developed in the context of the department’s strategic goals as well as set out objectives for each event and outline tactics for achieving those objectives.
  • Manage all aspects of marketing department and company-owned events, including: set up, tear down, delivery of goods and equipment and other logistics.
  • Oversee volunteers and contract employees at company owned or sponsored events, activities and promotions.
  • Communicate and coordinate with appropriate internal departments and/or external vendors on all applicable details of each event, activity and promotions.

Community Relations

  • Manage all sponsorship opportunities for the company with the goal of increasing positive publicity for the company and improving our profile in the community.
  • Develop marketing objectives based on departmental goals for each sponsorship opportunity and outline tactics for achieving those objectives.
  • Seek new opportunities in which The Oklahoman Media Company can be involved in the community by identifying, researching and presenting other high visibility sponsorship opportunities.
  • Interact with various internal departments on a consistent basis to keep them familiar with all aspects of relevant sponsorship opportunities.
  • Utilize all existing partnerships to further The Oklahoman Media Company’s reach, impact and involvement with local organizations and charities.
  • Generate timely reporting and documentation for each sponsorship opportunity.

Brand management:

  • Maintain and help enforce proper logo and style usage at all events and sponsorship opportunities across all company brands.
  • Communicate improper usage or modifications to logo(s) in community and throughout company.
  • Support The Oklahoman Media Company’s brands by helping to incorporate them effectively into all event marketing campaigns and sponsorship promotional plans, when appropriate.

Interpersonal skills

  • Be an advocate for volunteerism (reinforcing the importance of our role in the community) and communicate appropriate sponsorship opportunities to other Oklahoman Media Company employees.
  • Set an example through awareness with outward and passionate support of the community impact of our department and organization.
  • Reinforce customer relationships with sponsorship partners through professionalism in all interactions. (Always reflect a can do attitude).
  • Consistently demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, manager, and internal and external “clients.”
  • Maintain a positive attitude and be a positive influence in the department.
  • Contribute to overall success of marketing team through positive interactions. For example: identify and suggest process improvements; offer ideas for ad enhancements; contribute at team meetings; and assist colleagues when needed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to speak with authority on issues of event marketing and community relations
