Summary/Objective

The Product Manager is responsible for obtaining a

deep understanding of the applications, technology,

competitors, customers and trends for the Liquid

Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Industrial gas markets. They

will use this deep market knowledge to define the vision

of the product and solutions roadmap, by solving the

needs of the end users. The role reports directly into the

Business Line Director and will leverage the experience,

contacts, and knowledge of the commercial operations

team. The Project Manager is responsible for providing

market leadership focused on product, pricing,

placement and promotion for applications related to LPG

Dispensing, Rail Transloading and Bulk Plant Storage.

Through cross-functional engagement, the position will

guide strategic planning and new product development.

This position is required to survey, analyze, maintain

and communicate reports of key market trends.

 

Essential Functions

 

Market Research/Development

  • Drive market research efforts to understand changing dynamics, including competitive landscape and market share
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of market and technology trends and maintain thorough competitive analysis for the global market through end user visits, focus groups and market research
  • Apply learnings to New Product Development (NPD) effort and channel strategies
  • Research and identify customer base within a market along with channels to market

 

Strategic Planning

  • Work with the Leadership, Engineering, Finance, and Commercial Teams to develop strategic plans and long-term product, service, and technology road maps
  • Work with Sales Leadership to develop and implement pricing strategies that support revenue growth and profit goals
  • Support development of annual operating plans and long range plans that support growth and margin goals

 

Promotion / Advertising

  • Coordinate the design and development of marketing programs to reach (i.e., trade publications, white papers, press releases, web, social media) a broad customer base within the assigned market(s).

 

New Product and Service Development/Launch

  • Drive new product and services development efforts through direct contribution and facilitate communication between project functions
  • Routinely conduct and manage Voice of Customer (VOC) activities and data analysis that relate to assigned market
  • Translate VOC insights into clear market and product requirements which will be used by the engineering team to build the solution
  • Prepare draft commercial plans for new product launches
  • Lead the preparation of promotional programs to launch new products (i.e., literature, advertisements, direct mailers, training, demo equipment)
  • Create the whole spectrum of sales tools and collateral (customer value proposition, datasheets, white papers, customer case studies, demos) to communicate the value proposition within assigned market
  • Routinely hold product road map sessions with customers and collect VOC

 

Trade Shows and Training 

  • Maintain products for trade shows, training classes with sales, and demonstrations
  • Coordinate trade show planning and strategy
  • Attend trade shows
  • Ensure up-to-date products, training aids, and printed materials are available

 

Additional

  • Formulate, execute, and maintain product line strategies, product plans, and product roadmaps based on market insight
  • Estimates market size and growth, as well as additional focus markets, through appropriate data
  • Provides top management with market value estimates, conditions and economic market forecasts
  • Determines product requirements and works with Sales and Engineering toward implementation.
  • Prioritizes new product opportunities and recommends development plans
  • Reviews markets on a regular basis and provides written analyses of market share and competitive strategies worldwide
  • Develop market insight through VOC research, in-depth competitive analysis, and market segmentation
  • Acquires, develops/maintains and presents training materials illustrating the function and performance of the technologies
  • Trains sales and account managers, customers and third party channels
  • Manage product line revenue, margin, pricing, and investment
  • Maintains awareness of competitor activity. 
  • Offers strategies and countermeasures to protect and grow the business based on competitor's advantages and disadvantages
  • Participate in setting overall business strategic direction
  • Define, launch, and track all new offerings (conduct post-launch audits)
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company
  • Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description, and supervisor’s instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output
  • Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety to self and co-workers

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or other Technical Field
  • Five years marketing and/or product management experience required.

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Master’s in Business Administration
  • 7 plus years of experience

Work Environment

Exposure to manufacturing environment. Noise level

may vary from moderate office environment to noisy/loud

in the plant area.  Proper use of safety equipment such as

steel-toed shoes, goggles, safety glasses, gloves, apron

and face shield must be observed.
