Department: Arthritis & Clinical Immunology - J. Alberola-Ila

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Hematopoiesis and Immunology Research: To assist in multidisciplinary research on development and function of immune cells. Duties include implementation and management of animal and tissue specimen analysis using tissue culture, flow cytometry, PCR. Animal work is required. Additional duties include data entry and analysis, assisting with lab maintenance, and participating in weekly lab meetings. Training will be provided.


Minimum Qualifications:

BA/BS degree in one of the biological sciences or chemistry or 1 year of relevant laboratory experience.

Should be familiar with lab techniques. Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to follow detailed experimental protocols. Must be able to work well independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Responsible, detail oriented, and highly motivated individual with BA/BS degree in the biological sciences, 3.2 GPA or higher.

Preferred candidate will have laboratory experience and a track record of working with cells, tissues, or animals in a laboratory setting. Evidence of strong analytical skills and data analysis experience is also preferred.

Work Hours:

Temporary full-time position of approximately 6 months to a year, with the possibility of ongoing employment pending funding and performance.


Physical Demands:

Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
