SUMMARY

The Systems Administrator (“SA”) will design, perform capacity planning, tuning, administration and management of the enterprise server infrastructure to include virtualization solutions, domain controllers, storage management (Storage Area Networks (“SAN”), Direct Attached Storage (“DAS”) and Network Area Storage (“NAS”)), messaging systems, software applications, print and other servers, and user workstations. The SA will analyze systems for security vulnerabilities, identify available patches and upgrades, determine and apply those necessary and appropriate to mitigate the security vulnerabilities. The SA will collaborate with business units to identify, select and implement technology solutions matched to business needs. These responsibilities will be performed employing significant discretion and independent decision-making with negligible oversight.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 40%| Plans, designs, coordinates, implements and manages various enterprise systems to include servers, virtualization, storage management (SAN, DAS, and NAS), messaging solutions, print servers and domain controller services and platforms.

  • 20%| Determines, installs, tunes and enforces enterprise-wide operating system software; has primary responsibility for the review, analysis, and selection of systems patches to mitigate security vulnerabilities (to include operating systems, applications and data stores.)

  • 20%| Works collaboratively with business units to identify, test and evaluate software and hardware solutions to ensure that the technical solutions provided match the business needs. Proactively engages users to promote capabilities and proper use of supported systems and services.

  • 10%| Develops and enforces workstation images and configurations and integrates software solutions in a Microsoft Active Directory environment.

  • 5%| Analyzes, performs advanced troubleshooting and resolves system hardware, software and networking issues associated with all enterprise systems.

  • 5%| Performs advanced systems administration activities that include capacity planning, tuning, storage management, infrastructure security and disaster recovery preparation and testing.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Evaluates emerging technologies, vets vendors and solutions, and makes recommendations for new equipment and services to purchase.

  • Provides expert advice to management related to long-term business objectives.

  • Configures, optimizes, and monitors operating system software and servers.

  • Serves as the primary administrator of the enterprise messaging system: Microsoft Exchange.

  • Manages Active Directory functions including: user account creation and login scripts.

  • Creates and maintains good technical documentation which includes detailed flow charts and diagrams outlining systems capabilities and processes.

  • Performs on-site and remote technical support.

  • Provides emergency on-call support on a rotating schedule.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Broad knowledge and experience with the following:

  • Windows Server 2008/R2 and 2012 Server platforms with an emphasis on Active Directory and security best practices

  • Installing and configuring database systems, such as SQL Server

  • Enterprise corporate messaging systems such as Microsoft Exchange

  • Microsoft Windows XP/7/8/8.1 and 10 operating systems

  • Microsoft Windows CE platform/thin client and Dell WYSE

  • Windows print servers, domain controllers and all associated Windows services

  • Proficient in using powershell for scripting and automation

  • Printers, printer drivers and printer set up on a Windows Active Directory platform

  • LAN infrastructure including DHCP, WINS, DNS, IP v4,IP v6 and NIC configurations

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school degree required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

  • Technical certifications preferred but not required are:

    • MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional)

    • Microsoft Windows Server

    • Microsoft Exchange

    • Microsoft Active Directory

    • VMware or Hyper V Virtualization

OTHER REQUIREMENTS (SKILLS, ABILITIES, CHARACTERISTICS):

  • Ability to evaluate technology trends for company adoption.

  • Ability to use various tools and techniques to design, configure and analyze infrastructure.

  • Strong ability in creating Windows scripts and triggers.

  • Must have quality customer service skills, a strong work ethic, and is a team player with the ability to work well independently as well as within teams.

  • Highly motivated. Must be able to work effectively with minimal oversight and supervision, but with the ability to keep management informed.

  • Effective communication skills, both orally in writing. Must be able to explain technical information in an easy-to-understand fashion to end users. Must be able to effectively communicate within the IT team, as well as with all levels in the organization and outside vendors.

  • Must possess excellent organization and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize. Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Strong analytical ability and demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills. Considered an out of the box thinker and displays a willingness to learn.
