Job Description

Boeing Defense, Space & Security is seeking an experienced (level 4) Systems Engineer: Human Factors and Ergonomics to support multiple platforms supporting Airborne Surveillance Command and Control (ASC2) programs, primarily Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) programs. This position is based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Human Factors Engineering (HFE) is responsible for evaluation, selection and integration of ASC2 hardware and displays for both AWACS and AEWC platforms, to include mission crew and cockpit areas. The selected candidate will have responsibility for development/upgrade of cockpit and mission crew controls & displays, display layouts and formats, evaluation of operator/maintainer interfaces, plus lab and flight test evaluations. Provide support to Integrated Product Teams and Systems Engineering Integration Team through design analysis, requirements applicability and use of CATIA evaluations to validate, troubleshoot or propose design alternatives. And development of Human Engineering tasks, schedules and presentation. The HFE may also be working with customer/users towards development of both Human-Machine Interface and hardware solutions.

Responsibilities

  • an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Evaluate customer/operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces.
  • Perform various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture.
  • Perform analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
  • Develop, maintain and identify improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes.
  • Resolve cross-functional technical issues.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • Requires 10 years of Human Factors or similar military display format development experience, and development of associated system implementation requirements for hardware/software interfaces, avionics architecture, display capability, and operator interfaces.
  • Must be familiar with both hardware design and graphical based formats as they pertain to equipment selection, mission planning, situational awareness and operator task requirements.

 

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-1472 and MIL-H-46855 with a degree in Human Factors, Psychology, Engineering, Design or related job experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with a variety of Hardware/Software disciplines and be able to work on multiple programs simultaneously.
  • Experience with 3D modeling and format prototyping applications desired.

 

Typical Education / Experience

Bachelor's and 9 or more years' experience, Master's with 7 or more years' experience or PhD with 4 or more years' experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
