Job Description

Boeing Defense, Space & Security is seeking a Systems Engineer (mid-career/Level 3) to support Systems Safety for multiple platforms support Airborne Surveillance Command and Control (ASC2) programs, primarily Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) programs. This position is based in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

 

Responsibilities

  • Maintain hazard tracking/airplane safety data to identify emerging threats and perform risk assessments.
  • Customize reports to meet specific customer and/or program needs.
  • Identify potential improvements to the data system or alternative approaches.
  • Identify safety requirements and specifications for partner, subcontractor and supplier safety.
  • Track performance and review deliverables.
  • Prepare and monitor schedule.
  • Provide visibility to Lead on product lifecycle issues.
  • Report lessons learned, safety features and new safety technology to Leads. 
  • Perform risk identification, assessment and management of safety related issues. Identify risk handling options.
  • Establish criteria for acceptable and reportable levels of risk.
  • Identify residual risk to appropriate levels of management and internal customers.  
  • Develop and deliver oral and written system safety and risk presentations and training to employees, customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Aid less experienced system safety staff in the preparation and delivery of presentations. 
  • Prepare and compile safety data items such as system safety plans, safety analyses, safety assessment reports, safety certifications, and other documentation providing a record of the safety activities associated with the product. 
  • With guidance and approval of senior engineers, identify, tailor and flow down engineering, manufacturing and operational/contingency safety requirements to internal customers to meet program, enterprise and regulatory objectives. Conduct safety requirements verification and validation.
  • Develop, document and maintain system safety processes, methods and tools for the Safety Lead review and approval.
  • Identify, analyze and control hardware and software hazards.
  • Assist the design team in the evaluation and integration of changes into the design and operational processes.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance, for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.
  • Familiarity with both Military and their equivalent Industry Standards such as: MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-1629, DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, etc.
  • In addition, the candidate must have the ability to take the lead on a program that involves both software and hardware designs and perform the task in support of system safety engineering.

 

Preferred Skills

The ability to determine and specify all design requirements (for both hardware and software) that support the objectives of specified in the system safety program plan(s), to meet required safety goals and simultaneously support military or civil certification as applicable.

 

  

Typical Education / Experience

Bachelor's and 5 or more years' experience, Master's degree with 3 or more years' experience or PhD degree with experience. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
