OSU – Oklahoma City, located in the heart of Oklahoma City, is looking for an Veterinary Technology Lab Teaching Assistant




Job Summary:


To provide instructional assistance and support for Veterinary Technology Laboratory classes.


Essential Job Functions:

1.   Maintain laboratory equipment:  Operate, secure, inventory, clean, and perform quality control. 
2.   Maintain laboratory supplies: Inventory, maintain MSDS's, shelve, prepare, and label
3.   Assist instructors and students in Veterinary Technology laboratory classes
4.   Function as a team member in the coordination of the Veterinary Technology  program
5.   Serve as a role model to Veterinary Technology students 
6.  Assist with coordination of VT program activities with partner organizations and institutions, including but not limited to:  OSU Center for Veterinary Health Sciences; OU Health Sciences Center; OKC Animal Welfare Division; Volunteers for Animal Welfare; No More Homeless Pets-Oklahoma; Metro Alliance for Animal Life; WildCare Foundation; Little River Zoo
7.  Perform other duties as assigned.



Rate of Pay: $12.00 per hour





AAS in Veterinary Technology


Work Experience:

A minimum of 5 years experience as a veterinary assistant and /or registered veterinary technician in a clinical  (public or private) setting or a Bachelor’s of Science degree. 

Experience caring for a variety of animal species


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of current instrumentation and equipment used in the veterinary field 

Knowledge of currently acceptable surgical, restraint, and laboratory techniques

Knowledge of AVMA accrediation requirements an accrediated veterinary technology program 

Experience in the handling and restraining of a variety of small and large animal species.

Must be interested in the success of the VT program and its students

Must exhibit the professional deportment and demeanor befitting a role model


Professional Licenses and/or Certifications:

Certified (Licensed/Registered) Veterinary Technician, Current Oklahoma licensure required.
Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license and be willing and able to drive a university owned vehicle to off-campus locations.  Must be willing to transport students or other university approved passengers.


Working Conditions:

Must not be adversely affected by (allergic or sensitive to) formaldehyde, any commonly used veterinary formulations, or any commonly encountered domestic species to the extent that such allergy/sensitivity would impair job performance
Must be TB negative and agree to annual TB testing
Must either be rabies vaccinated (assuming Human Pre-exposure Vaccine is available) or agree to sign a waiver of liability

Must be able to work outdoors in typical environmental conditions (rain, heat, cold, wind) with appropriate personal protective equipment.
Must be able to work in a noisy environment with appropriate personal protective equipment
Must be comfortable working with large groups of people and/or animals


Physical Requirements:

Must be able to manipulate and/or lift animals as necessary to perform tasks related to veterinary care, with appropriate personal protective equipment
Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license and be willing and able to drive a university owned vehicle to off-campus locations.  Must be willing to transport students or other university approved passengers.
Must be able to operate manual cattle and horse enclosure and restraint equipment (corral gates, stocks, chutes, head gates, etc.) with appropriate personal protective equipment
