Adjunct - Horticulture

Job Summary:

May teach horticulture classes including lecture subjects and hands on lab sessions. Class subjects needed for the spring 2019 semester include: Principles of Horticulture, Maintenance of Landscape Plants, Landscape Bidding and Contracts, Advanced Turf Management, and Horticulture Soil Science.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintain syllabus, assignments, exams, and online classroom content as necessary
  • Plan and facilitate classroom learning
  • Participate in student retention and persistence efforts
  • Communicate progress in the course to students in a timely manner
  • Maintain accurate records of students’ attendance and progress and provide them to administration in accordance with established institutional policies and procedures
  • Support the mission of the program, division, and college

Requirements

 Work Experience:

Three to five years of industry experience in the area(s) of instruction.


Education:

Associate’s degree in Horticulture or related field


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to effectively communicate one-on-one, in small groups, and in classroom situations.
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field  


 

Working conditions:

  • Classes may be day, evening, or online. Evening and weekend hours may be required for
    class preparation or assignment/exam grading.
  • Classes may require work outdoors in typical environmental conditions (rain, heat, cold, wind) with appropriate personal protective equipment. 

     



Physical conditions:

Duties require extended periods of sitting, talking, listening, and computer usage.

May require lifting up to 30 pounds (if an object weighs more than 45 pounds, OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two-person lift.)
