Job Description:

Teach Developmental Writing and/or Basic Composition during the day and/or evening.  To Develop in each student the skills of critical reading, writing, and thinking and aid students in becoming proficient writers and become a positive member of the community.

Pay Rate: $650 per credit hour

Essential Job Functions:


  1. Employ innovative instructional methods, which include the use of a variety of audio/visual technology into appropriate classes.
  2. Maintain student and course records in accordance with standards set by the lead instructor, division head, and institution.
  3. Provide continuing education experiences for the community.
  4. Actively participate in assessment activities within the division.
  5. Completes all mandatory training and participated in a minimum of two professional development each year.
  6. Perform other related duties as needed.

Master’s degree in subject area required, or Master’s degree + 18 graduate credit hours in subject area required, or Bachelor’s degree plus industry certification/experience for technical program faculty only


Minimum three (3) years teaching and classroom management experience.


Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Required:

  • Proven success working with developmental students

  • Experience with various instructional technologies.

  • Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English. Requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.

  • Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail and Internet.

  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.

  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.

Other performance measures:

Successful performance of the job requires creativity, initiative, and effective problem solving.  An incumbent must use tact and diplomacy.  Following school dress standards, proper attendance or leave policies, and other work-habits concerns are required.

Preferred Qualifications:


Ph.D. in related field


Working Conditions:


  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include some evenings and weekends in an often times busy and noisy environment.
  • Work will be performed in an office and classroom environment with a significant amount of public contact, in person, by telephone and via email. 

Physical Requirements:


  • Duties require extended periods of sitting, standing, talking, listening and computer usage
