Job Function:

Under the general direction of the Senior Director of Information Services, the Director of Infrastructure Services is charged with overseeing the campus technology infrastructure (voice/video/data), IS security, and centralized server deployment, operations, and maintenance at Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City.  The Director serves as the lead infrastructure architect for the campus, coordinating the design, implementations and management of technology infrastructure services and staff.  The Director of Infrastructure Services identifies and resolves impediments influencing progress, creates and sustains relationships with internal and external partners, and ensures that the Infrastructure & Security group is consistently demonstrating the department’s “We Help” motto.

 

Pay Rate: 

 $50,000 Salary

Essential Job Functions:  

1.      Manages infrastructure and security staff responsible for the university network.

2.      Identifies resource needs by performing necessary research to develop enhancement and expansion strategies; reviews needs with appropriate management; allocates resources accordingly. Forecasts and prepares the infrastructure services annual budget request.

3.      Provides a reliable, available, and maintainable Microsoft environment.

4.      Ensures regular data backup and restoration services are taking place.

5.      Develops plans for business continuity, disaster recovery, contract services, and outsourcing arrangements, as appropriate, and ensures documentation is taking place.

6.      Interviews, supervises, and trains new infrastructure and security staff.

7.      Conducts weekly staff/team meetings and compiles the minutes from those sessions.

8.      Monitors, evaluates, and gives feedback to subordinates regarding their progress in work assignments.

9.      Compiles weekly reports for the Senior Director of Information Systems on area’s accomplishments, projects, and issues.

10.     Stays informed and shares with staff regarding concepts, trends, and issues related to infrustructure services. 

11.     Remains current on emerging technologies and recommends innovative solutions.

12.     Plans and promotes training opportunities for infrustructure staff.

13.     Proactively seeks and attends professional development opportunities offered both within and outside the university.

14.     Participates in professional associations.

15.     Develops and maintains positive working relationships with the OSU-System personnel, community partners, and other universities.

16.     Prepares purchase orders/request for required equipment or services as needed on projects.

17.     Maintains confidentiality on internal/departmental issues, IS personnel files, and university data.

18.     Performs other duties assigned.

19.     Completes all mandatory training and participates in a minimum of two professional development each year

20.     Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in management information systems, computer science, business, or closely related field.  Relevant work experience and Microsoft or Cisco certifications may substitute for formal education.

Work Experience:

  • 3 – 5 years experience as a network engineer, data center supervisor, or similar role.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience as a manager/supervisor of medium to large networks, server administrators, data center, and security support teams.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience working with Cisco systems including routers, switches, and telecommunication components including messaging.
  • 3 – 5 years of experience working in a Windows/Exchange environment.
  • Experience in directing and managing multiple projects/tasks, including long-term planning.
  • Experience with installation and maintenance of telecommunications and data center systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience as a telecommunications manager or data center supervisor.
  • Master’s degree in management information systems, computer science, business, or closely related field.
  • Previous experience in virtualization, alert/event management, and automated job scheduling.
  • Previous experience in a university/higher education environment.
  • Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to influence others.
  • Related technology certifications from Cisco, Microsoft, or relevant organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of data center environmental controls (power, cooling, space management, physical access/security controls).
  • Strong knowledge of server Operating Systems (Specifically a Windows environment).
  • Strong knowledge of SAN (Storage Area Network) Operations.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN, routing, QoS, Firewalls, and NAC.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment. Occasional evenings and weekends maybe required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Other than those physical/mental requirements included within the essential functions, position
  • Requires lifting of up to 50 lbs (if an object weighs more than 45 pounds, OSU-Oklahoma City requires this to be a two person lift.)
  • Requires proper handling of computers, components and technology equipment, use of both hands in repetitive actions, simple grasping, and fine manipulation
  • Working on ladders, under desks and in enclosed spaces also required
