Do you love helping businesses with their digital marketing? Do you have a good grasp of how websites function? We’re a constantly-growing internet marketing agency looking for someone who would enjoy helping local and national brands improve their online marketing presence. We will train you to generate SEO recommendations that drive traffic, build brands and encourage conversions.

Having some understanding or experience of on-site search engine optimization practices would be great, but is not as important as aptitude, attitude, and potential in the core disciplines of marketing, writing and internet technologies.

Job Responsibilities:

  • You’ll contribute to search engine optimization campaigns for clients. Every client is different, but this typically includes things like:
    • Conducting keyword research
    • Making on-site SEO recommendations including site code, navigation, content, and usability recommendations.
    • Writing original copy/re-write copy balancing SEO and marketing objectives.
    • Implementing search engine optimization recommendations in content management systems.
    • Using analytics programs to show the benefits of SEO campaigns to customers, and interpret that data to help clients understand the value of SEO.
  • We believe in transparency, so we publish monthly reports and communicate campaign results to clients. You’ll also use web analytics data to make recommendations about what we can do next to help a client’s business.
  • We love our clients and take a lot of time to understand them and educate them about what we do. You’ll regularly meet and communicate with clients to understand their marketing needs, set their SEO strategy, and communicate successes and challenges.
  • Education is one of our core values. As a trainee, you’ll need passion to fill in the gaps in your digital marketing knowledge (with lots of help from us). As you hone your SEO expertise, we’ll expect you to be a source of that expertise for our sales team, your team members and our clients.
  • The workload of an SEO trainee is pretty evenly split between collaborating with other team members and working on solo projects. A positive attitude is a must, as is being equally comfortable working as part of a team and driving hard on your own projects.
  • This traineeship is designed to transition into an SEO Specialist role, provided training goes well.

Job Requirements:

  • Data analysis and critical thinking ability: You should be able to look at a set of data, draw conclusions about it, and communicate those conclusions.
  • Solid understanding of marketing concepts and best practices.
  • Writing skills. Fundamentals like grammar and spelling are a given but you will also need to be able to write persuasive marketing copy and communicate effectively via email and written reports.
  • Ease in communication. You don’t have to be a great public speaker but you should have good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Juggle multiple projects, stakeholders and deadlines with aplomb.
  • Aggressive and enthusiastic learning: Learn fast, be proactive and contribute enthusiastically.
  • Drive to meet deadlines, no matter what it takes, whether working independently or as part of a team.
  • Flexibility: the search marketing landscape moves fast – the right candidate will adapt well to change and respond quickly to feedback.
  • A good balance of a creative spirit and an analytical mind.

Education and/or Experience:

  • No SEO experience necessary. We will train you to support projects and advance your skills until you can take ownership of your own campaigns.
  • Like we said, you’ll need a solid understanding of marketing concepts and best practices. If you don’t have a marketing degree, you should have some experience with sales, marketing, advertising or public relations.
  • Experience writing marketing copy, blogging, or otherwise writing for the web or news sources.
  • Be a citizen of the web. We spend most of our days online; you should have an enthusiasm for the internet and have already spent some time building a web presence.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. If you hate Microsoft Excel, this is definitely not the job for you.

Nice to Have/Bonus Points:

  • Front-end web development (HTML/CSS) experience.
  • WordPress or other content management systems experience.
  • Experience with tools like Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools.
  • Experience with or understanding of SEO and internet marketing (if you have at least a year of experience, consider applying for our SEO Specialist position instead!).
  • Experience with content marketing, graphic design, video production, photography or offline marketing tactics
