Position Summary:

Virginia Tech invites applications for two full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track instructor positions in the Department of Sociology for the 2019-2020 academic year. Teaching load will be four courses each semester. For the first position, applicants must have teaching experience in criminology and be able to teach a variety of courses in sociology or criminology, including Criminology, Juvenile Delinquency, and the Sociology of Drugs and Alcohol. Applicants must have a minimum of a master’s degree in sociology or criminology in hand at the start of appointment. A Ph.D. in one of those fields is preferred. For the second position, applicants must have teaching experience in sociology and be able to teach a variety of courses, including sociological theory.
The Department of Sociology grants the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in sociology with options in Africana Studies or Women’s and Gender Studies. We also offer an undergraduate major in criminology. The Department of Sociology is the academic home of programs in Africana Studies, American Indian Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies, and houses the Center for Race and Social Policy Research and the Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention.
