Job Description: To develop, maintain, improve, and administer Initial College Studies Math courses. To develop in each student the skills of critical thinking and to aid students in learning and understanding the subject matter presented to them.

Salary:

Commensurate

An incumbent must use tact, diplomacy, and professionalism at all times; follow school dress standards, adhere to departmental and divisional attendance and leave policies, and maintain appropriate habits conducive to a productive and professional work environment.

 

Essential Job Functions:

1.      Teach fifteen (15) credit hours per semester. This may include evening or online instruction.

2.      Work with ICSM faculty and Math faculty to ensure the curriculum prepares students to be successful in subsequent math courses.

3.      Work with ICSM faculty and Mathematics faculty to develop, maintain, improve, and instruct co-requisite courses.

4.      Work with ICSM faculty and Mathematics faculty to maintain, improve, and instruct courses in Math Pathways sequence.

5.      Serve as lead instructor for assigned areas and maintain appropriate records.

6.      Provide the first-level of advice and or assistance in academic areas

7.      Solve problems involving students and/or adjunct instructors

8.      Field instructor questions, concerns, or requests in your lead area

9.      Mediate the grievance process for students, as follows

10.  Make every effort to resolve the problem at the first level

11.  Point out ways the student can self-evaluate or improve study skills, when appropriate

12.  Support instructional rigor, and exercise fair treatment of students in all situations

13.  Suggest ways the instructor can strengthen instruction and/or presentation skills, when appropriate

14.  Inform the department/division head of the situation in case the student decides to pursue the grievance to the next level

15.  Orient new instructors to assigned courses.

16.  Review and select appropriate texts and technologies for faculty and student use.

17.  Continually improve existing curriculum by designing or revising new curricula in conjunction with ICSM faculty and faculty in the Mathematics department and other departments and divisions ICS serves.

18.  Develop and maintain course syllabi for the assigned lead areas.

19.  Develop semester course schedules and assign instructors in cooperation with the fellow ICSM Lead Instructor and Initial College Studies Division Head.

20.  Conduct classroom observations of adjuncts in areas of responsibility.

21.  Establish guidelines and procedures for laboratory use, where applicable.

22.  Employ innovative instructional methods, which include the use of a variety of audio/visual technology into appropriate classes.

23.  Maintain student and course records in accordance with standards set by the division head and the institution.

24.  Promote the objectives of the division and institution through service on committees and participation in special projects as assigned.

25.  Post and keep office hours in accordance with the institutional and divisional policies.

26.  Participate in special projects and serve on institutional committees.

27.  Participate in staff development through format course work, seminars, workshops, professional organizations, or professional literary material.

28.  Provide continuing education experiences for the community.

29.  Actively participate in assessment activities within the division

30. Completes all mandatory training and participates in a minimum of two professional development each year.

31.  Perform other related assigned duties

Requirements

Education:

Master’s Degree in Mathematics or Master’s Degree in related field with 18 graduate hours in mathematics

 

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of the content area
  • Instructional design focused on student learning
  • Minimum three (3) years teaching and classroom management experience
  • Proven success working with developmental students
  • Experience with various instructional technologies
  • Familiarity with student learning assessment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English and prepare complex reports on deadline; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
  • Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail and Internet. Must be demonstrably proficient in the technical and content aspects of math software programs, as well as the technology involved with Internet courses. 
  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior

 

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office and classroom conditions
  • Evening hours maybe be required
