Nursing Instructor - Team Lead

Job Functions:  

 Coordinate course activities including classroom instructions (online and onsite), clinical, laboratory, student evaluation, counseling and record keeping to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.  Collaborate with team members to improve classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction, student counseling and advisement, and effective team function.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Perform the job responsibilities of the team member (see team member job description).

  2. Collaborate with team to plan and coordinate student learning activities and team member schedules.

  3. Support university and department philosophy, goals and policies and facilitate interpretations to team members and students.

  4. Establish and maintain a collegial relationship with team members and a relationship with students that is conducive to learning.

  5. Facilitate professional collaboration among team members to establish goals and priorities.

  6. Schedule and chair regular team meetings.

  7. Facilitate open communication among teams and with administration.

  8. Serve on the Leadership Council and Advisory Committee.

  9. Establish and maintain communication with clinical agencies utilized by team members and students.

  10. Provide input for annual evaluation of each team member as requested.

  11. Share teaching and clinical responsibilities with team members.

  12. Orient and mentor new full-time and part-time team members.

  13. Participate with team members in student evaluation and contracts.

  14. Facilitate collaboration within and between teaching teams to evaluate and revise course content.

  15. Maintain course related student records.

  16. Provide oversight of team members’ office hours.

  17. Provide administrative support and supervise adjunct faculty.

  18. Coordinate requests for clinical slots with team members and inform Department Head of approvals and rejections.

  19. Collaborate with Department Head regarding strategic planning for the Nurse Science Dept.

  20. Coordinate development of Internet course site.

  21. Arrange for coverage for clinicals when absences occur within the department.

  22. Completes all mandatory training and participated in a minimum of two professional development each year.

  23. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education:

A master’s degree with a major in nursing.

 

Qualifications:

  • Have a minimum of 2 years teaching experience, preferably in an Associate Degree program. 
  • Have a minimum of two (2) years’ experience as competent practitioner of nursing.
  • Have demonstrated leadership abilities and computer literacy evidenced by past work.
  • Hold an unencumbered license to practice as registered nurse in the State of Oklahoma.
  • Active membership and participation in nursing and other professional organizations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Professional written and verbal communication skills in English 

  • Fosters a cooperative work environment

  • Demonstrates computer literacy

  • Competent in healthcare electronic medical record management

  • Dependable, responsible, prompt, and meets established deadlines

  • Works efficiently both independently and in a team environment

  • Efficient work habits with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Flexible, works well under pressure, and prioritizes work assignments

  • Handles confidential information discretely, adheres to HIPPA and FERPA guidelines

  • Manages clinical paperwork, student evaluations, and student discussion

  • Uses independent judgment: strong problem solving skills

  • Presents self professionally and displays ethical comportment

  • Completes all training/orientation as required by hospital/clinical facility before supervising students

  • Completes all university/college orientation and training required for employment

  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism

  •  Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional

 

Working Conditions:

 

  • Follow guidelines of Center for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Occasional evenings or weekends may be required

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Lifting/transfer of hospitalized patients
  • Extensive standing and/or walking.  Occasional bending/stooping, squatting/crouching and pushing/pulling
  • Manual dexterity, visual acuity, and hearing to assist with client care in clinical facility
  • Physical and mental stamina to perform clinical and classroom facility teaching job functions
