Job Function:

·         Dissection of human cadavers throughout the semester 

·         Maintain lab equipment, laboratory cleaning, and cadaver preservation

·         Supervise Open Lab sessions

·         Assist Full-Time Lab Technician and Lead Anatomy Instructor

·         Follow Policies and Procedures as outlined in the Student Anatomy Lab Tech employee handbook

 

 

Pay Rate: 

$7.64 hourly 

 

 

Essential Job Functions: 

 

·         Dissection of the human cadavers

·         Basic laboratory cleaning

·         Maintain inventory of lab equipment

·         Supervise students during “Open Lab” sessions

·         Major cleaning of the anatomy labs at the end of the semester

·         Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

·         Attaining a grade of a “B” or better from OSU-OKC BIOL2214 Human Anatomy Lecture and Cadaver Labor BIOL1515 lecture with BIOL1212 Cadaver lab

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·         A working understanding of anatomy with “B” level or higher from BIOL2214 or BIOL1515 lecture withBIOL1212 lab courses taught at OSU-OKC. 

·         Student Lab Technicians must have a sense of the overall instruction of the anatomy course taken at OSU-OKC and be familiar with the presentation of cadavers.

·         Must be self-motivated, willing to review anatomy materials, able to follow written/oral instructions, and have appreciable hand-eye coordination. 

·         Must be willing to safely operate and utilize dissection instruments, sharp objects such as scalpels, and power saws. 

·         Must have good personal communication skills and the ability to work without direct supervision while supervising students during the “Open Lab” sessions.

 

Preferred Qualifications

·         Have earned a grade of an “A” or higher from OSU-OKC BIOL2214 Human Anatomy Lecture and Cadaver Lab.

·         Have a letter of recommendation from a current OSU-OKC Anatomy Lab Instructor.


Work Hours and Days:

·         Student Laboratory Technicians will work a variety of hours on weeknights and weekends with 3 to 4 hours per shift and a maximum of 20 hours per week. 

 

Environmental Conditions

·         The Human Anatomy Cadaver laboratory contains formaldehyde (formalin), bleach (50/50), Auto-Suite, and other chemical or cleaning solutions typically found in the environment of an anatomy lab.

·         Open-toed shoes, exposed ankles/feet/legs, and contact lenses are forbidden.

·         Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided by OSU-OKC and must be worn, this includes: eye protection, latex or nitrile gloves, and lab coats whenever dissecting.

·         Additional personal protective equipment (OPPE) may be worn:  formaldehyde respirators face masks, and face-shields.

·         Lab techs must be able to use sharp scalpels, dissection instruments, and operate hand/electric saws.

Physical Demands:

All applicants must be able to:

·         Manual dexterity with dissection instruments and power tools

·         Individually able to lift 50 pounds and team-lift bodies weighing up to 300 pounds

·         Ability to stand or sit for up to 4 hours per shiftAbility to perform acute repetitive motions during a shift 

·         Requires bending/stooping.pushing/pulling and similar motions, as well as carrying/lifting of materials up to 25 lbs
